Cook with me: Summer smoothie

"Part of the secret of success in life is to eat what you like and let the food fight it out inside." - Mark Twain

Hello everyone,

it is getting hotter day by day here in Slovenia. Perfect weather for going to the seaside. But, there is one problem - when the temperature rises, my appetite falls. It is hard to eat the same kind of food that we consume during wintertime, right?

From my experience, the best thing to keep my stomach full for a while is a freshly prepared smoothie. It contains a lot of vitamins (which is super good for the body) and its taste is also delicious. This is why I decided to share with you my favorite smoothie recipe which I named the Summer smoothie - I bet you don't know why I named it like this!

Ingredients (for 2 smoothies):

5 to 8 ice cubes
2 cups of milk (regular, soy, coconut, almond, rice etc.)
1 banana
1 cup of raspberries (fresh or frozen)
1 tablespoon of oatmeal

Method:
Just mix all ingredients listed above in a blender for a minute or two and it is done! Serve in a glass jar and enjoy your creation.

(Donkey likes this smoothie too as you can see.)

What do you like to eat/drink during hot summer days?

Best wishes,

Vanja

Cook with me: Tiramisu in a cup

"I don't like food that's too carefully arranged; it makes me think that the chef is spending too much time arranging and not enough time cooking. If I wanted a picture I'd buy a painting." - Andy Rooney

Hello everyone,

for today's post I decided to share with you a recipe my mother found this week somewhere on the Internet. It is a delicious Italian dessert which makes me weak every time I eat it (yes, I have a sweet tooth). I will show you how to make tiramisu in a cup! Let's begin, shall we?

Ingredients (for 4 cups):

2 teaspoons of coffee
4 teaspoons of sugar
100 g of biscuits (about 8 pieces)
10 tablespoons of mascarpone
10 tablespoons of whipped cream
2 tablespoons of cocoa powder
1/2 cup of grated chocolate

Method:
1) Make a cup of coffee using 2 teaspoons of coffee and 4 teaspoons of sugar (or however you make your coffee) and let it rest for 5 minutes.
2) In a small bowl, mix mascarpone and the whipped cream together.
3) Dip the biscuits in the coffee and put them into the cups.
4) Add 5 tablespoons of mascarpone-whipped cream mixture into each cup.
5) Top it off with cocoa powder and grated chocolate.
6) Put it in the fridge to cool down.

That is it! You don't need any special skills for making this, it is not complicated at all. But, I do not recommend eating too much cups since it has a few calories. Bon apetit!

Hope you had a great weekend,

DIY: Bring old shirts back to life (part 1)

"It takes half your life before you discover life is a do-it-yourself project." - Napoleon Hill

Hello everyone,

I decided to write a DIY post about how to bring old shirts back to life. This is the first part, because I will write down more options in the future posts.

To start with, DIY stands for do it yourself . If you have any old out-of-date shirts, long or short sleeved (it doesn't really matter) which you don't like to wear anymore, then keep on reading.

How to make a crop top

(The "before" picture looks kind of funny because it was taken after I cut everything off.)

What you will need:
an old shirt
scissors
pencil or pen
ruler

How to make it:
  1. Try on the shirt and mark how short you want it (I would suggest till the belly button so you don't show off too much skin). Also mark the sleeves if you want to shorten them.
  2. Lay the shirt on a flat surface and with the ruler draw a straight horizontal line where you have marked previously.
  3. Cut, cut, cut! Cut off the bottom part of the shirt and the sleeves. You can also cut around the collar area.
  4. Try on the shirt again and repeat the process if the shirt is still too long for you.
  5. Gently pull on fabric to remove jagged edges.

Voila! That is it, really simple yet fun to make. Tag me on Instagram (@crayonsandbeads) so I can see how you did it.

Did you like this idea/post?

Now it is your turn!

The start: Why Crayons and Beads?

"Once you start working on something, don't be afraid of failure and don't abandon it. People who work sincerely are the happiest." - Chanakya

Hello everyone,

welcome to my blog Crayons and Beads. I had an idea about starting an own blog for months now but I did not have enough time to make it happen. I have been following many blogs that have truly inspired me and this has somehow pushed me to make the next step - to create it.

Finally, here I am. Writing my very first post.

Why the name Crayons and Beads?

A month ago, I watched a video on Youtube about how to start and maintain a good blog. It was said that the name must have a meaning and I totally agree. Choosing the name was a little bit difficult. So what did I do? I wrote down every thing or topic that I like and then I picked these two words and put them together - crayons and beads.

Crayons represent the colors - I would be so unhappy if only black and white existed, because I love colors so much! They make everything happier, including me.
Making bracelets is my love and passion. This is why I chose beads.

And who am I?

A girl named Vanja, from Slovenia (so excuse my English, it is not my first language), studying medicine and making bracelets when there is some time. I love the seaside and peaceful environments where I can relax my soul.

I plan on posting once a week every Sunday and I already have many ideas for the future posts. So stay tuned!

I hope you liked this first post, I tried not to write too much. I would love to see what you think of it. Please, leave a comment and share your thoughts!

Best wishes,

Vanja
